10 Reasons Why One Chose MyBB

labrocca, an active user at the MyBB Community Forums came up with a list of 10 (actually 11) reasons why he chose to convert from vBulletin to MyBB.  Here’s what he posted (slightly edited):

1. vB isn’t free (obvious one I know)
2. vB skinning is difficult and often good skins cost money
3. vB has a bloated system and you can’t remove parts you don’t need
4. vB upgrading is an incredible hassle while MyBB has a near perfect upgrade system
5. MyBB has an excellent plugin system that if used properly requires no core file changes
6. Tikitiki is cool
7. MyBB has been steadily advancing it’s code base for resource efficiency
8. MyBB requirements are less than vB allowing for smaller sites to thrive on cheap hosts
9. AJAX features…yes I know vB has some too but MyBB uses them with efficiency and sensability
10. Quick learning curve and vB is a nightmare to understand. There are dozens of settings in vB that are plain ridiculous
11. Fast easy install…yes you do this normally just once but MyBB makes it really easy

Now in turn I ask you, what made you choose MyBB over another bulletin board software?

Doesn’t the title need changing to “10 Reasons Why One “Should” Cho”o”se MyBB”?

Oh well, doesn’t matter really just thought I’d mention it. The one makes me giggle, oh “one” drinks tea :P sorry!

Okay, these are good reasons and I really like the MyBB package. It should be considered just like any other package though, as it makes sense that it’s down to the user(s) and this type of thing changes but it does point out certain good things.

I use vB too and some of the points here are simply wrong.

vB has much more AJAX features, the Plugin System goes deeper and the templates makes more sence, because they have a few large templates. MyBB has many templates with only 2-3 lines, why they are not included in the main template.

Do not missunderstand me: I like mybb very much, but we should be realistic!

    Because it is open source..

i was not fully happy with the other open source solutions that exists, i found mybb and tried it and suddenly forum management became funny.

the theme editor is very good. generally i do not like web-gui’s but prefer to edit the source files, css and html. i usually just do some minor changes, but still most web-gui’s fail to support me. i was surprised to learn about how efficient mybb’s theme editor was, and that it actually did support me in my needs, and even more.

the architecture of mybb seems to be sophisticated. it is a huge system and everything feels organized very well. good developers.

    the interface is easy.

mybb has many features, and they all feel significant.

i have not tried them but, i think this one beats the commercial ones too.
